CODIT: An acronym for Compartment of Decay in Trees.
Crown: Also known as the “canopy,” the crown is the upper portion of your tree. It is measured from the lowest branch to the highest, most outreaching limb, as well as to the highest point of your tree.
Deep root fertilization: This refers to when you insert a probe, or soil needle, about eight to 12 inches below the ground at the base of the tree. You’ll then inject a liquid fertilizer directly into the tree’s root system to provide the essential nutrients needed for it to grow.
Dead-wooding: The process of removing all dying, diseased, or dead limbs, growth, and branches from your tree.
Drip Line: The area under the crown’s circumference. Also called the “critical root zone,” the drip line is where water drips from the tree’s leaves and branches.
